Nathan Ake was recalled from his loan spell in January, but he may be on his way out of Chelsea again in the summer.

Despite the transfer window not being open, the rumours continue to swirl. The latest bit of news regards Chelsea youngster, Nathan Ake. Reports claim that the defender may leave the Blues in the summer after failing to break into the first team since returning from loan.

The Telegraph states that the Dutchman could either leave on loan or permanently having spent the last month largely on the sidelines.

"Defender Nathan Ake may leave Chelsea, either on loan or permanently, again in the summer.Bournemouth, where he spent the first half of the season on loan, and Southampton are both interested in Ake, who has failed to break into Conte’s side since returning to Stamford Bridge in January."

More from The Pride of London

Ake was in fine form for Bournemouth during the first half of the season. He was an integral part of Eddie Howe’s defence and helped them to an impressive mid-table position by Christmas.

Based on his performances, Antonio Conte decided to recall the defender in January. The Blues’ lead at the top of the Premier League was not as commanding and they needed defensive cover.

However, the 22-year-old has made just two appearances for Chelsea since returning, both in the FA Cup. With the back three of Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz looking solid, Ake’s chances seemed destined to come at wingback.

Victor Moses, though, has been a hidden gem on the right (as proven by his contract extension) while Marcos Alonso has been playing like Roberto Carlos since Ake’s recall.

Hence, the opportunities for the youngster have been limited and he has endured a frustrating time. Having been one of the first names on the Bournemouth team sheet, Ake struggles to make the bench at Stamford Bridge.

Conte did the best thing for the club by recalling him, as an injury to either Moses or Alonso would otherwise be fatal. However, it has come at the cost of Ake’s personal development.

With external recruiting set to beef up the wingback department over the summer, Ake may feel it is necessary to leave again. From a Chelsea fan’s point of view, this will hopefully be a loan deal. From a business standpoint, the Blues could probably earn a decent fee by offering him out on a permanent basis.
