After a January enquiry, Tony Pulis has confirmed that West Brom will be interested in John Terry should Chelsea not extend his contract in the summer.

John Terry will once again be subject to contract speculation this summer, with Chelsea yet to indicate whether he will be offered another one-year deal. Having made an initial enquiry in January, Tony Pulis has reiterated that West Brom will be interested in the Englishman’s services should they be available.

Speaking about the rumours, Pulis confirmed that the Baggies would consider a move for the ageing defender.

"(January’s enquiry) was just finding out what the situation was and then it was whether we moved on it or we didn’t…If he becomes available in the summer we’ll sit down then and have a little think about what we’ve got and what we haven’t got and then we’ll take it from there. – via Sky Sports"

Terry’s contract situation was one of the more unsavoury moments from last season. With everything going south, the board’s inability to communicate their position to the Chelsea veteran filled fans with anger.

Eventually, Terry was handed an extension, but the situation seems much clearer this season. Terry will likely be leaving in the summer and the question will be around whether he decides to call it a day or carry on playing.

If the latter, West Brom could be an ideal destination for Terry. Pulis has built the Baggies into a force to be reckoned with, as their position in 8th suggests.

West Brom are defensively sound and appear set-up to potentially push for an European spot next season. With 37-year-old Gareth McAuley already a big part of their defence, Terry will not receive limited appearances due to his age.

Furthermore, Terry will not need to relocate across the world as his likely other destination, China, would require. He will also be able to compete in one of the best leagues in world football.

Having said that, the amount of money that would be on the table from Major League Soccer or the Chinese Super League may take precedence. Terry may want to close a chapter as well, opting to take a lucrative one-year retirement deal over competing in the same league as the only club he has ever played for.
