Chelsea win saw Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini sold down a river
Chelsea defeated Manchester United 1-0 on Monday night to seal a place in the FA Cup semi-finals. Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini were sold down a river and it’s worth another look.
Chelsea continued their fine form (and recent dominance over Manchester United) on Monday night as they defeated the Red Devils 1-0. It was a tight contest, despite the visitors being down to ten men for much of the game, but the Blues are the team heading to Wembley Stadium. The match also saw Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini royally embarrassed.
And as Chelsea fans bask in the glory of another win over Jose Mourinho, the two incidents are certainly worth another look.
This first touch is simply pure class from Eden Hazard. A long pass from Gary Cahill finds Hazard in the centre circle. The Belgian sends Smalling all the way back to Maidstone United with an audacious inside heel turn.
That moment summed up the winger’s performance. He dazzled under the lights, despite United’s best efforts to kick the living hell out of him. It was the sort of Hazard performance that proves that he can one of the world’s finest.
Meanwhile, Fellaini did his best impression of Marouane Fellaini and in general was a bit sh*t.
N’Golo Kante sent the midfielder flying with the simplest of shifts. It was yet another great day for the former Leicester City man, as he proved why he is worth so much more than the listless Paul Pogba. Much of the build-up focused on their midfield duel and Kante won it comfortably.
Furthermore, he bagged a goal for all of his efforts. At a third of the price, Kante has staked his claim for being the signing of the season.
And, as expected, people were quick to create the obligatory Shooting Stars memes…
All in all, a fun day out for the Blues then. Tottenham Hotspur await in the semi-final as Wembley plays host to a heated London derby.
