Chelsea transfer target, Radja Nainggolan, has revealed that he held talks over a potential Blues move last summer. He hasn’t ruled out the possibility yet.
Chelsea were heavily linked with Roma midfielder, Radja Nainggolan, during last summer’s transfer window. Now, the Belgian has confirmed that the speculation was indeed valid as he even held talks with Antonio Conte over a potential move.
Speaking with Sky Sports News, Nainggolan revealed how advanced Chelsea were in their pursuit of him. Moreover, he failed to rule out a Premier League move should interest be shown this summer.
"Yes. I talked to him [Conte]. They were really interested and wanted me over there. That’s all I can say…We have to make choices in life. I am having a good season. When the window opens we will talk about it again. – via Metro"

Reports claim that Chelsea and Roma refused to budge on their respective bid and asking price. Hence, no transfer materialised.
However, with the Blues set for an expanded schedule and European football next season, they may be more willing to splash the cash this summer.
Nainggolan has forged an impressive reputation in Serie A, being widely regarded as one of the best the Italian league has to offer. His 28 appearances (27 starts), nine goals and three assists have helped Roma to second position – an improvement from the third-place finish last season.
At least on paper, the Belgian appears like an ideal signing for the club. Importantly, he seems to be a player that Conte wants, as opposed to someone purchased on the whim of the transfer committee.
Given the Italian’s unique tactics, incoming players need to be the right fit. They must be able to adapt to a hard-working brand of football with original roles. If Conte scouts a potential signee, he is evidently confident in their capacity to integrate.
Chelsea have been fantastic this season, but the weight of games will take their toll next term. The depth in the squad is a concern. Meanwhile, the quality of the Premier League is questionable. Once again, English clubs have failed to match their European counterparts’ success in Europe.
When the Blues come up against the likes of Bayern Munich or even Atletico Madrid, they will simply not be up to the required standard. Chelsea need to pay the premium for talent like Nainggolan in order to be well equipped for Champions League football.
