Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal continue to be in turmoil as Arsene Wenger refuses to confirm whether he will be staying. Once again, it seems that the Gunners’ best players are due to leave in the summer and Chelsea are lining up Alexis Sanchez.

According to The Guardian, Antonio Conte has singled out the Chilean as a prime target for the summer.

"Chelsea have made Arsenal’s Alexis Sánchez their main summer transfer target and Antonio Conte has discussed the possibility of bringing the Chilean to Stamford Bridge with the club’s hierarchy."

Sanchez is Arsenal’s best player and has proven that he has the talent to be regarded as one of the world’s finest. With Diego Costa’s future uncertain, the Blues are on the lookout for a star striker to lead them to European success next season. Sanchez would fit the bill perfectly.

Cesc Fabregas and Marco Verratti

Chelsea are also in the market for a midfielder as Conte looks to increase his squad depth. One player on the radar is PSG’s Marco Verratti. The midfielder has built an impressive reputation over the years but is yet to test himself in the unique Premier League. Chelsea could be the club to give him that opportunity.

However, according to Goal, the Blues are cooling on a deal. Apparently, the club would need to sell Cesc Fabregas to free up funds, a move they are currently unwilling to make.

"Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is believed to be a huge admirer of Verratti but the Blues would need to sell Cesc Fabregas to justify the swoop, which they’re currently unwilling to do."

Fabregas has been in fine form over the last few months, reminding everyone of his class. Hence, Conte is rightly against letting him go in favour of a somewhat unknown quantity.

Having said that, at the age of 24, Verratti is approaching his prime. His acquisition could represent a signing for the next decade.

If the Blues truly rated the midfielder, they would not need to sell Fabregas. The club have deep enough pockets to splash the cash on players they feel would add significant value to squad. If they are considering selling a player to compensate for Verratti’s fee, then they simply do not believe that he is that important a signing.
