Ruben Loftus-Cheek becoming desperate for Chelsea minutes
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is becoming desperate for Chelsea minutes, declaring that he is willing to play in multiple positions in order to get onto the field.
While Chelsea are flying high at the top of the Premier League, some players are not enjoying themselves as much as others. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, for example, has seen his career stall further this season and he is now willing to play out of position if it means getting on the pitch.
Speaking during the international break, the Englishman revealed that he is ‘open’ to changing up positions.
"I’ve been playing in a forward position with my club and I’m always learning and I’m open to playing different positions. That can only be good for my development. – via The Times (subscription required)"

While this quote is politically correct, it is easy to see through the disguise. Loftus-Cheek has not seen his career progress as he would have hoped this season. He was not sent on loan last summer, suggesting that Antonio Conte had plans to utilise him.
However, Loftus-Cheek has observed the bulk of Chelsea’s ascent from the sidelines. He has made only eight competitive appearances, with just four starts. Moreover, those starts came in the FA Cup and League Cup.
The issue with the midfielder (or forward) is that he is no longer a youngster. Loftus-Cheek is already 21-years-old, yet he is not able to break into the Blues first team. Talented players of his age are beginning to make an impact with their teams and in their leagues, yet the opportunity is just not there at Stamford Bridge.
With Chelsea at the top of the league and looking imperious, Antonio Conte is hardly to blame. After the disastrous 2015/16 campaign, the Italian needed to re-establish the club.
Moreover, it may be the case that Conte’s youth plans are still taking the shape. Such policies do not take effect overnight, especially given the ingrained attitude in West London. Hence, it may only be next season when players like Loftus-Cheek become increasingly involved in first-team affairs.
However, Loftus-Cheek will be well within his rights to explore his options over the summer. He may have become bored with the false promises from Chelsea officials. Hence, nothing that Conte could say would change his mind.
