While many took Wednesday night’s result as proof that Chelsea will win the Premier League, the seven point lead still means very little to Antonio Conte.

Chelsea grinded out a win against Manchester City on Wednesday night, maintaining their seven point lead over Tottenham Hotspur in the process. Following the blip at the weekend, many took this victory as evidence that the Blues will not crumble on the home stretch. Antonio Conte, though, is not resting on his laurels.

The lead looked like it was going to be even greater, too. Swansea were 1-0 up heading into the final minutes of their clash with Spurs. However, a stunning turnaround saw Mauricio Pochettino’s men emerge with a 3-1 win.

Conte was informed of the result as Chelsea’s match also drew to a close. Devastated is the only word that can be used to describe his reaction.

Chelsea fans are largely regarding the title race as good as over. In fact, most of the league are thinking the same way. However, Conte’s mindset is the complete opposite. It isn’t over until the fat lady sings.

With eight games left, it would take a collapse of biblical proportions for Chelsea to surrender pole position. In winning the City game, they proved that they are made of stern stuff. Conte, though, will keep drilling his players until the pack are mathematically out of the race.

This level of focus and attentiveness is what has driven the Blues to the top of the table. They have not taken any opponent lightly and, since extending their lead, they have not taken their foot off the pedal.

Expect Chelsea to continue in the same vein en route to Premier League triumph. Conte will send out his strongest side in every remaining game, even when the FA Cup semi-final approaches, as dropped points will once again create unwanted pressure.
