The latest Chelsea transfer news surrounds a veteran and a hot prospect. The Blues are reportedly interested in Pepe while Leicester City circle Tammy Abraham.

Rumours continue to be churned out by the tabloids as the summer transfer window inches nearer and nearer. The latest batch of reports sees Chelsea linked with Real Madrid defender, Pepe. Meanwhile, Leicester City are considering a move for on-loan striker, Tammy Abraham.

The Sun claims that Pepe has come onto Antonio Conte’s radar. The defender is out of contract in the summer and although Madrid have tabled a one-year deal, he’s looking for a more substantial offer.

"Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has enquired about signing Real Madrid’s Pepe, according to reports…Veteran Pepe, 34, has been offered a new one-year extension by Los Blancos. However, his desire to get a new two-year deal has not been met by Madrid officials and he looks certain to leave."

This would be an intriguing move from Conte. Chelsea already have a couple of veteran defenders in Gary Cahill and John Terry, so there seems to be little need for a player like Pepe. Furthermore, with Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma waiting in the wings, the Blues have the necessary talent to succeed their older teammates.

Hence, fans can likely write this rumour off as unsubstantiated noise. Chelsea do need another defender, but Pepe is not the right man for the role.

Meanwhile, as Tammy Abraham returns to scoring form, his future has come into question. The striker has immense potential but, as is the case with most young Blues, the lack of opportunities at Stamford Bridge may drive him away.

The Sun are once again the source as the publication reports that Leicester City are considering a move for the Englishman.

"Leicester City are lining up a shock raid for Chelsea’s young goal machine Tammy Abraham.Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare wants an extra forward in his squad next term and would buy the Stamford Bridge starlet or borrow him for the season."

Abraham has been one of Bristol City’s few bright spots in a disappointing season. After firing them into play-off contention early on, a disastrous run of form sees the club battling relegation.

Nevertheless, Abraham has taken steps in his development and his performances have been exciting Blues fans. With Diego Costa seemingly on his way out and Michy Batshuayi not in the picture, Abraham may be in the running for a first-team role.

However, that role will likely see him get little game time. At this stage in his career, Abraham needs to be starting regularly, whether it be in the Premier League or on the continent. If Leicester City can guarantee him that football, then Abraham would be wise to make the move.
