Chelsea continue to be linked with several moves for several players that you may or may not know much about. The latest transfer target is Andrea Belotti and the Blues have reportedly seen a bid worth over £50 million be rejected. So who the hell is Belotti?
Name: Andrea Belotti
DOB: 20/12/1993

Andrea Belotti has been creating quite a stir in recent months. The striker has been making waves over in Italy where he plays with Torino. With 26 goals in 31 competitive appearances, Belotti has certainly caught the eye.

Belotti made his senior football debut some six years ago for AlbinoLeffe, where he had spent the bulk of his youth career. A decent goalscoring record saw Palermo come in for him. The Italian spent two seasons with them, helping the club get promoted to Serie A. Despite an unremarkable 16 total club goals, Torino signed him in the summer of 2015.
After netting 12 times in the league during the 2015/16 campaign, Belotti has truly exploded onto the scene this season.
Torino are nestled currently in mid-table and they owe a debt of gratitude to their striker. The 23-year-old has scored 24 of the 59 Serie A goals that Torino have registered. That is the definition of carrying a team on your shoulders.
With Diego Costa’s future up in the air, Belotti could be the ideal replacement. At his age, he still has his best years ahead of him. However, his performances have projected the image of a mature, thoughtful player. Having his game refined by a coach of Antonio Conte’s calibre is an exciting prospect for all involved.
Even if Costa stays, Belotti can complement the inconsistent incumbent. He can play alone up front, or as a second striker. The general impression is that Chelsea will be moving to a 3-5-2 formation by the start of next season. Belotti appears an ideal candidate to play up front in such a system.
However, the Blues have much work to do if they are to sign him. They have already had a sizeable offer rebuffed and there is reason to doubt whether it is worth increasing the bid. £50 million is a lot of money for any player – would Chelsea be better serviced by investing the money elsewhere?
Well, I’ll leave that question to you. Is Belotti worth the money? Vote in the poll below!
