Until the tail end of the season, most of Michy Batshuayi’s highlights came on Twitter instead of the pitch. Some of our writers provide their favourite tweets from Chelsea’s most engaging striker.

Michy Batshuayi quickly revealed himself to be a different personality than Chelsea had known before. The Blues have had their share of outgoing, charismatic players, and many of them kept in touch on Twitter and Instagram. Even John Terry uses his IG account, often to drop not-so-subtle hints that he has something brewing in Portugal.

Batshuayi, though, was on a different level. Whether he was taking us on a tour of his SpongeBob Squarepants collection or sending Dragon Ball fans into delirium, the Belgian kept us – and himself – well-entertained. He also made himself a fan favourite despite spending little more than a minute at a time on the pitch.

Daniel Mcclue: “Nah don’t do this bro” was, rather unfortunately, one of the top Batshuayi moments for the majority of the season.

The whole conversation was absolutely hilarious, and the innocence of Batshuayi’s “nah don’t do this bro” just made it so great. Add to that the fact that he went back to the apparently unstable Twitter user to make sure he kept it in his pants when Michy scored in the next game. It’s the simple things in life.

Brendan McDonell: Those who follow my Tweets know that I’m the Official Troopz Correspondent for the Pride of London. So Batshuayi calling out Troopz saying Chelsea are going to beat them 10-2 “No Aggregate” was hilarious.

George Perry: That Michy Batshuayi stayed so optimistic and in such good spirits despite being seemingly discarded for the vast majority of the season is the greatest testament to his and Antonio Conte’s character. Perhaps in private he sulked and moped, but in public he was always chipper and bright.

But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t occasionally throw some shade back at the haters. When someone asked how things were on the Chelsea bench:

A few months later, a West Ham fan pointed out that Simone Zaza had more minutes than Batshuayi. The Belgian pointed out a quick stat:

As it happens, Zaza ended the season with one more goal than Michy Batshuayi. He only needed 1100 more minutes and a transfer to La Liga to do so.
