Tammy Abraham will delay contract talks with Chelsea until the end of the U21 Euro 2017 tournament. Could the Blues be losing another prospect?

While all the speculation currently surrounds who will replace Diego Costa, another Chelsea striker has hit the headlines. Tammy Abraham has stated that contract renewal negotiations will have to wait until he finishes up with England U21 at Euro 2017.

Speaking about his future, Abraham revealed uncertainty over his Stamford Bridge career.

"I haven’t spoken with Chelsea yet. I am focusing on this tournament so the discussions will happen after.I’m not too sure (about his future). Hopefully it will be in the Premier League. After this season I need to take myself to the next level. That’s the type of person I am, I always want to do better. I always want to do more. So going into the new season my aim will be to top this one. – via Sky Sports"

More from The Pride of London

Abraham was a sole shining light for Bristol City last season, with his goals helping them avoid relegation. After an impressive campaign, the time is right for the 19-year-old to step up a level.

Given that Chelsea will be fighting for the Champions League next season, Abraham will probably not receive the football he needs with the senior team. However, the fact that he is contemplating a permanent switch, instead of a loan, will worry Blues fans.

Abraham is one of the club’s brightest and most exciting prospects. Moreover, he has proven his credentials in the Championship and has progressed as club management would have liked.

Nevertheless, he is evidently getting cold feet at committing his future to a system that is notoriously poor at giving youngsters an opportunity. Several potential stars have seen their careers stall in West London. Abraham doesn’t want to join a list of nearly-men.

Having said that, we might be jumping the gun. Abraham is in fact displaying a great attitude by not allowing backroom matters affect his on-field performances. He should be focusing on England’s campaign at the moment and thus we should not be rushing to conclusions.

For Chelsea fans, though, this seems like an all too familiar story. Will Chelsea be losing yet another immensely talented youngster? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
