Chelsea appear to be on the verge of selling yet another young player as Lyon are in advanced talks over the transfer of Bertrand Traore.

Chelsea fans are used to this by now. Yet another young and exciting player is seemingly nearing the Stamford Bridge exit. Lyon are in talks with the Blues to sign Bertrand Traore, following his impressive loan spell with Ajax last season.

According to the Independent, the French club are close to finalising a deal for the striker.

"Lyon are expecting competition from a number clubs as they hold “advanced talks” with Chelsea to sign midfielder Bertrand Traore…“We want to bring Bertrand Traore to the club,” club president Jean-Michel Aulas told reporters at a press conference to unveil newly signed defender Fernando Marcal.“There are advanced talks there, but many clubs are interested. We absolutely want to do the deal.”"

More from The Pride of London

Traore has been one of Chelsea’s brightest prospects in recent years. He broke into the first team during that disastrous 2015/16 campaign, playing 12 Premier League games. However, he did not feature in Antonio Conte’s plans for the past season and was sent to Ajax.

At the age of 21, Traore needs regular football and a stable environment. He has always possessed much potential, but a permanent switch is required if he is to fulfill it.

Again, it looks like there will be few opportunities in West London, with Chelsea in the market for a superstar striker to replace Diego Costa. Lyon could be an exciting destination for Traore.

It is, though, bound to be disappointing news for Blues fans. They were hoping that Conte’s arrival would bring a fresh attitude to their development system. However, it has very much stayed the course. Traore was tipped for great things in Chelsea blue, but he will likely never get a chance to prove himself here.

Hopefully, he will showcase his talents at another club and find his way back to the Premier League in a few years’ time.
