The rumours are getting juicier for Chelsea fans as Robert Lewandowski is the latest player to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

With recent reports suggesting a rift between Antonio Conte and the board, Chelsea appear to be kicking into action. Robert Lewandowski is reportedly in talks over a move to West London as he seeks to leave Bayern Munich. The striker is exactly the sort of player the Blues need to step up a level.

Sky Sports claims that the both Chelsea and Manchester United are trying to sign the forward, with talks already underway.

"Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague believes Chelsea and United have spoken to Lewandowski’s representatives over a potential move.Balague believes Lewandowski’s preferred choice at this stage is Stamford Bridge, but United are thought to be very keen on landing the 28-year-old and held talks with his agent on Tuesday."

Lewandowski has been a formidable player. In four seasons with Borussia Dortmund, he scored over 100 goals. A big money move to Bayern followed and he has just gone from strength to strength.

The 28-year-old has scored over 40 goals in each of the last two campaigns and has consistently proven why he should be known as one of the best strikers on the continent.

However, rumoured discontent with his situation in the German capital is forcing him to evaluate his options. A switch to the Premier League is arguably the challenge that he needs to take in order to cement his legacy.

With Diego Costa on his way out, Lewandowski would be an upgrade. Stumping up an inevitably hefty fee (he is under contract until 2021) will indicate that Chelsea mean business.

If Antonio Conte’s men are to challenge for the Champions League next season, they need to be faultless all over the pitch. A world-class forward is required and Lewandowski is certainly that. A successful pursuit shows that the board are as ambitious as the manager.
