Chelsea will once again loan out a plethora of young players. Five who should be challenging for a senior squad place are due to be moved along.

When Antonio Conte took over at Stamford Bridge, there was hope that the club’s attitude towards its academy system would change. Instead of sending youngsters out year after year, the most promising would be given a chance to prove themselves in the senior team. That hasn’t happened and, as we approach a new season, five potential superstars are set for loans.

The Metro claims that all of Nathaniel Chalobah, Lewis Baker, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kurt Zouma and Michy Batshuayi will be sent out on temporary deals.

"Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is ready to loan out a further five players in this summer’s transfer window to make way for a flurry of new signings at Stamford Bridge…However, Chalobah is one of the names who could now be heading out on loan again this summer, joining Michy Batshuayi, Kurt Zouma, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker."

Four out of these five players were in and around the first-team squad last season, but no-one was able to enjoy significant game time. Their progression was hampered at key stages in their respective development – an all too familiar story for the youth at Chelsea.

Now, they will likely not get another crack at Stamford Bridge next season. Instead, they will be shipped off to spend a year at a club without a long-term plan. At this stage, you wonder whether it is in each player’s best interests to push for a permanent move. Stability is what they need, not uncertainty.

Hopefully, Premier League clubs and others in top European leagues will take a punt on one of these five. They have shown the potential to be top European footballers, but they risk a failure to fulfill it.

Being sent to the likes of Vitesse, or a Championship club, will only take them backwards. Having said that, it is better than sitting around and doing nothing at Stamford Bridge.
