Having left Chelsea for Lyon, Bertrand Traore has revealed his reasons for moving on. Yep, you guessed it, it’s the ones you have heard before.

Yet again, a promising young Chelsea graduate has failed to see the light at Stamford Bridge. And yet again he is leaving to get first team football elsewhere. Bertrand Traore moved to Lyon earlier this week and has now revealed his reasons for doing so. As if it was news to any Blues fan anyway…

Speaking about his prospects with the Blues, the forward was very blunt.

"I could have stayed at Chelsea and played a few minutes in every game, fighting every day for a spot, knowing that I’ll never get a spot, I trained at the club, I did everything. Two seasons ago, I challenged the starters but we all know what happened last year. I was there during pre-season and then I was sent out on loan.So this year, I did not want to re-live the same scenario. It was time for me to find a stable club where I could play first-team football. – via Evening Standard"

Chelsea are notorious for failing to give their youngsters a chance. Just when it seems like they are on the verge of getting senior squad football, they find themselves out of matchday squads or on loan.

Traore was fed up with this and rightly pressed for a permanent move. At the age of 21, he needs a stable environment and regular top-level football in order to fulfill his potential. He has for long been touted as a future star and this move was necessary to stay on that course.

For Chelsea fans, this is just another disappointing transfer. They are now used to seeing prospect after prospect head to the Stamford Bridge exit without receiving an opportunity to showcase their undisputed talent.

The academy has won numerous trophies in recent years. Several FA Youth Cups and U18 Premier League titles have been brought back to Cobham. Yet none of the players who helped the academy to success have landed a role with the first team.
