Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the latest Chelsea youngster linked with an exit, although this time it is a loan deal. Southampton and Newcastle United are interested.

While most of the current talk surrounds players that could be joining Chelsea, there is speculation about someone who could be on his way out. Ruben Loftus-Cheek may leave the club, with the likes of Southampton and Newcastle United looking to take the midfielder on loan.

The Mirror claims that the Saints are currently leading the way, as Loftus-Cheek looks to get regular football next season.

"Southampton want Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan. The Saints are confident of beating Newcastle and Brighton to his capture in what would be a coup for new boss Mauricio Pellegrino."

More from The Pride of London

Loftus-Cheek contributed very little to Chelsea’s Premier League success last season. The midfielder failed to make an impression on Antonio Conte and thus suffered on the bench.

Once heralded as the next big thing at Stamford Bridge, Loftus-Cheek is now an afterthought. The Englishman needs to become a starter somewhere if he is to get his career back on track.

Southampton, now under the management of Mauricio Pellegrino, could be an ideal destination. The Saints have consistently been an impressive Premier League side playing decent football. Loftus-Cheek wouldn’t walk into the first team, but he would have a shout.

In fact, this would be better than joining Newcastle United. The competition, but conquerable competition, would force the midfielder to raise his game and get back to the level he once promised to reach.

The only issue would be the temporary nature of the deal. A one-year loan will see Loftus-Cheek return to Stamford Bridge next summer. He needs a stable environment in order to develop. Being fed into the loan machine will only stall an inevitable career in obscurity.

It’s in Loftus-Cheek’s best interests to push for a permanent exit, especially when a club of Southampton’s quality is keen on signing him. Take advantage of the Saints’ faith and try to salvage a potential superstar career.
