While Chelsea fans await the first big arrival of the summer, the latest reports claim that they are unwilling to up their Danilo bid by a measly £3 million.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is once again on the verge of signing for Chelsea, but nothing has been announced yet. Apart from a 34-year-old goalkeeper, a random academy player and a defender who isn’t really needed, Chelsea have failed to do business in the areas they need to. Now, they are apparently being overly frugal in their pursuit of Danilo.

According to the Evening Standard, Real Madrid want the Blues to increase their price by £3 million. Chelsea, though, are refusing to do so.

"Chelsea have been told they will have to pay £30.8m to buy Real Madrid defender Danilo.Coach Antonio Conte wants Danilo to compete with Victor Moses for the right wing back position and the Brazil international is prepared to leave the Bernabeu.Chelsea are only prepared to pay up to £28m for the former Porto star."

Wow.

The Blues need reinforcements at wingback as they currently only have two options there. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso were fantastic last season, but they need competition to maintain their performance levels.

Cesar Azpilicueta could fill in when needed, but Nathan Ake has been sold and Kurt Zouma appears to be close to a loan departure. If either Moses or Alonso gets injured, the squad’s lack of depth is exposed.

Danilo is the ideal candidate to join Antonio Conte. He is a proven and well-respected wingback who would immediately have a claim over a starting role. This would create the intra-squad competition that forces everyone to up their game. The incumbent duo will know that they must be flawless in order to retain their places.

However, Chelsea seem to be blocking the deal through some uncharacteristically tight behaviour. While their rivals are splashing the cash on the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette, the Blues are being anal over a £3 million difference in valuation.
