Manchester City make Chelsea’s life much harder in Danilo chase
Manchester City have entered the race for Real Madrid’s Danilo in a move that will push up the price and make life more difficult for Chelsea.
With Tiemoue Bakayoko finally a Chelsea player, fans are hoping that the Blues will conclude some more business soon. The search for another wingback is deemed a priority and Real Madrid’s Danilo has been linked with a West London switch. However, Manchester City have now entered the race.
According to The Sunday Times, Pep Guardiola is looking to add the Brazilian to his Kyle Walker signing.
"[Chelsea] face competition from Manchester City for another of their summer targets. Brazil international Danilo is wanted by both Premier League clubs and is expected to cost a minimum of €25m (£21.9m).Chelsea and Juventus were thought to be leading the way for the Real Madrid defender but City have now made an approach as they seek to meet Pep Guardiola’s lavish demands for a full cohort of new full-backs."

With City revamping their defence, they are moving quickly and clinically in the transfer market. Having closed a record £50 million deal for Walker, the Manchester club are not letting up.
On the contrary, Chelsea have moved at a snail’s pace this summer and they risk paying the price for it. Had they been more urgent, Danilo may have already been a blue. They weren’t and now a bidding war with City looms.
Real will undoubtedly use the interest from the two clubs to demand a higher price. Meanwhile, Danilo may also take advantage of the situation to negotiate better personal terms. Chelsea will bleed more money than necessary in order to capture his signature.
Moreover, Danilo may not even be interested in a City move. Given the Walker signing, the competition for a starting place at The Etihad is much more fierce. Despite Victor Moses’ performances last season, the Brazilian may view Stamford Bridge as the easier place to enjoy regular football.
Hence, the Blues will just be throwing money away for the sake of it. City are essentially making Chelsea’s life more difficult and there is little more to it.
Fans may also fear that the club will drop out of the race. Recent reports suggested that Chelsea officials were unwilling to raise their bid by a meagre £3 million to meet Real Madrid’s asking price. The competition from City may push Danilo’s valuation out of the Blues’ range.
