Chelsea are putting Diego Costa on his own training regime to prevent prospective clubs being put off by his lack of fitness.

Chelsea’s summer has been a mess. The Blues have been pushed around by their rivals and snubbed by prospective signings. Now, they are putting Diego Costa on a special training regime to increase the likelihood of selling him before September.

"He is yet to return for pre-season training but with Atletico Madrid and AC Milan hopeful of signing him this summer, Chelsea are prepared to send the 28-year-old a special training programme until a deal is agreed. Costa has been training alone in Brazil and Chelsea want to ensure he is fully fit to speed up the chances of a move away. – The Telegraph"

The Blues have been taken for a ride on multiple occasions this summer. First, Romelu Lukaku ditched them at the last minute for a Manchester United switch. Then Danilo revealed that he actively rejected the chance to join Chelsea, opting for a Manchester City switch instead.

Costa, meanwhile, has been partying in an Atletico Madrid shirt while Antonio Conte has been putting the squad through the places. The striker simply couldn’t care less.

However, the club’s inability to find a suitor for Costa means that they could end up spending special resources in keeping him fit. Few clubs would be tempted by an out-of-shape Costa. To avoid being stuck with him for another six months (at least), Chelsea must ensure he is near match fitness.

It is just a farcical situation that sums up Chelsea’s activity over the last month or so. Yes, they have signed a few players. Key areas of concern are still left unattended to, though. The Blues only have two first-team wingbacks in the squad, for example. The departure of Nemanja Matic leaves them a midfielder short as well.

Chelsea fans are sweating over the new campaign and rightly so. While the players try to pick themselves up after a disappointing pre-season, some coaches will be solely deployed to keep Costa on track. A man who is not in Conte’s plans will be taking up the time and effort of Blues staff.
