Danny Rose wants to leave Tottenham and is keen on a Chelsea move, according to the latest reports. Well…get on with it then!

Chelsea have failed to address the lack of squad depth this summer. They have signed a striker to replace Diego Costa. They have also signed a midfielder, but one is not enough to cover the multiple departures. At wingback, meanwhile, they have signed absolutely no-one. Danny Rose apparently wants to leave Tottenham, handing the Blues a golden opportunity to solve this problem.

The left-back has quietly become one of the leading defenders in the Premier League. Some may even say that he is the best left-back outright in the top flight.

However, Rose has just come out with some explosive comments regarding Tottenham’s transfer activity and Sky Sports reports that he wants to leave.

The Englishman has shown himself to be a solid defender as well as a potent threat going forward. It sounds like the perfect profile for the left wingback slot at Stamford Bridge.

If these rumours are true, the Blues must test Tottenham’s resolve with a decent offer. Spurs will want to keep one of their best players, but money does talk. Speaking to The Sun, Rose was blunt about entertaining offers from other clubs too.

"If something came to me that was concrete, I’d have no qualms about voicing my opinions to anyone at the club."

Rose is essentially daring Chelsea to make a bid. With their stadium renovation, Tottenham are not in a position to play hard ball. They sold Kyle Walker for £50 million and will likely accept an offer for Rose should it head near the £60 million mark.

This late in the transfer window, Chelsea don’t have much leverage either. This could be a deal that is made purely because of the vulnerable positions of both clubs. Rose is the only man who can dictate terms here.

However, the Blues do not have any other viable transfer targets left out there. They must do all in their power to sign Rose and appease an increasingly frustrated Antonio Conte.

Chelsea’s first test of squad depth will be this Saturday. Victor Moses is suspended for the season opener against Burnley, so Conte will have to improvise to fill the right wingback role. No matter how that turns out, the Blues simply cannot sustain winning form through a packed season with makeshift teams.
