Everton boss Ronald Koeman has stated that Diego Costa would be a welcome addition to Goodison Park should such a deal be on the cards.

The Diego Costa saga has reached yet another development. Everton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that the striker would be ‘welcome’ on Merseyside. Chelsea are keen to offload the Spanish international after a summer of discord.

Speaking ahead of the Toffees’ clash with Antonio Conte’s men, Koeman was asked about striking options and refused to rule out a Costa move.

"I have always said there will be a warm welcome for every good player here and he is a good player…We are still looking to bring in a striker. – The Guardian"

That is essentially a roundabout way of stating that he would sign Costa if the opportunity was there.

Everton Head-to-Head: Form points to convincing Chelsea win

Everton let go of their leading goalscorer this summer. They did receive a huge fee for Romelu Lukaku, but they haven’t properly replaced him. Wayne Rooney has got off to a terrific start and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks like one for the future. However, Rooney is unlikely to keep up the pace while new signing Sandro Ramirez is trying to settle in.

Costa revealed earlier this summer that Conte had texted him to say he was not in his plans. Since then, the former Atletico man has been partying in an Atleti shirt and generally been in exile in his birth nation. He doesn’t want to come back and train with youngsters and is happily paying any fine the Blues chuck his way.

Chelsea are desperate to get rid of him before the transfer deadline and Everton may be their saving grace. Koeman has built an impressive squad at Goodison Park, but they are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title. Hence, Chelsea wouldn’t be letting Costa go to a direct rival.

Everton also still have significant sums left over from the Lukaku deal. The Blues can exploit that fact to recoup their valuation of Costa. The striker’s antics have seen his value plummet, but Chelsea may be able to squeeze some extra millions out of Everton.
