Chelsea have reportedly agreed a fee with Arsenal to purchase Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The news has split opinion, so vote below to let us know what you think!

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a Chelsea move for some time now. However, Sky Sports reported on Monday afternoon that the Blues had agreed with a fee with Arsenal. Some people staunchly believe that he should not be brought to Stamford Bridge. However, others think he will be a good signing.

As the transfer window deadline approaches, Oxlade-Chamberlain may undergo parts of his medical in the England camp.

"Chelsea have agreed a fee with Arsenal for England international winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sky Sports News understands. The 24-year old is with the England squad at St George’s Park and Sky Sports News understands large parts of a medical could be carried out at England’s training centre."

The Englishman is being viewed as a backup for Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso. Chelsea’s current emergency wingback option is Cesar Azpilicueta, but he is of much more use to the Blues in central defence.

More from The Pride of London

Oxlade-Chamberlain was deployed at wingback by Arsene Wenger towards the tail end of last season. He was adequate in the role, but not overly impressive. Last Sunday, though, he (along with his team mates) put in an atrocious performance against Liverpool. He seemed unwilling to fight for his club, jogging instead of sprinting back and generally looking disinterested.

If Chelsea sign him, the hope will be that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s attitude that day was due to his contempt for Wenger. With his contract expiring soon, he evidently wants to move on and was perhaps making a statement by not bothering. Arsenal’s current situation is unique in that Oxlade-Chamberlain could very well burst back into life at Stamford Bridge.

At the age of 24, he is still young too. Antonio Conte worked wonders with Victor Moses last season. Hopefully, he will be able to (forcefully) guide Oxlade-Chamberlain down the right path.

The issue, though, is that he may be eager to play in a more central role. The general consensus is that Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to join a team where he can play down the middle and further forward. That simply will not happen at Chelsea.
