While Chelsea pursue Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente, Tammy Abraham may be negatively affected by the consequences of any deal.

As the transfer window deadline edges nearer and nearer, the rumour mill in spinning ever faster. Chelsea are reportedly reviving their interest in Fernando Llorente as they look for a quality striker to cover Alvaro Morata. However, such a deal may negatively impact Blues youngster Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan in Wales.

Swansea City have been linked with a move for Wilfried Bony in recent weeks. The forward left Liberty Stadium for Manchester City in January 2015, but he has since been surplus to requirements. Last season, he went on loan to Stoke City and is currently wasting away on the sidelines at The Etihad.

Selling Llorente will almost certainly cause Swansea to make a proper move for Bony. The striker is available for sale and the Swans will need him.

CFC Transfers: Diego Costa saga is mercifully reaching its conclusion

Abraham has started all three of Swansea’s opening fixtures while Llorente has been nursing a broken arm. He has scored one league goal thus far and has shown much promise as well. However, Bony’s arrival would provide immediate competition for Abraham and may even result in him losing his place.

Competition is always healthy when players are looking to improve, but the fear is that Paul Clement will opt for the new permanent signing over the loanee. If that does turn out to be the case and Bony starts scoring, then Abraham will find it hard to get the minutes he so desperately craves.

As a result, Chelsea will also lose out. Abraham was sent to Swansea in the hope that the exciting prospect would play regularly in the Premier League. Their move for Llorente may, in convoluted fashion, end up hindering that.

Chelsea need Llorente, though, so despite these concerns they must still push for a deal. With Michy Batshuayi struggling, the Blues need a reliable back-up during this packed season. Llorente is a proven goalscorer and is the right age to play second-fiddle.

However, it is quite disappointing when you realise that a Llorente deal could have an adverse effect on a young Blue whom all fans want to see succeed.
