Davide Zappacosta – D

This looks like a clear panic buy and reeks of desperation from the board. Especially after Chelsea missed out on Dani Alves, Danilo, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Rafinha for the RWB role.

With merely minutes to go before the transfer window shut, Chelsea struck a deal worth £25m with Serie A club, Torino, for Zappacosta. The Italian signed a 4-year deal with Chelsea and has 4 international caps under his belt.

Initially Chelsea were looking for an upgrade on Victor Moses, but as the dilatory behaviour of the board stretched on and important targets slipped out of the club’s grasp, Zappacosta was brought in as cover for Moses.

However, Zappacosta is a decent player by all accords, as he is a good crosser of the ball and is an ideal Conte player. He puts in a shift every time he dons the shirt and gives it his all. Do not expect him to play like the effusive Dani Alves and dribble past 5 players.

Chelsea fans hope that Antonio Conte can prove their scepticism wrong by doing a Marcos Alonso with Zappacosta. Let’s hope Conte doesn’t drop him a text, just because of his name!
