Danny Drinkwater – D

Nothing highlights the board’s attitude like this signing. Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater was signed for a whopping £35m after the window had shut, with only an extension saving the blushes.

Not only does paying £35m for essentially a 4th choice CM seem ridiculous, it also makes one question the cheap sale of Nathaniel Chalobah to Watford.

However, Danny Drinkwater is again a respectable signing as the player is a good passer of the ball. Premier League fans would remember that he had formed a telepathic partnership with Jamie Vardy in the 15/16 season and his long balls to Vardy propelled Leicester to the title.

Drinkwater suffered a massive dip in form as N’Golo Kante’s departure left Leicester’s midfield porous and Drinkwater had to now focus on the developments in play behind him, rather than in front of him.

One can only hope that their partnership can once again resurrect Drinkwater’s playmaking abilities as he’s clearly seen as the cover for Cesc Fabregas.

Moreover, players such as Nemanja Matic, Nathan Ake, Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Chalobah have joined fellow Premier League outfits, potentially hindering the Blues down the line.
