Alvaro Morata continues to calm Chelsea nerves on duty
Alvaro Morata is kicking on from his decent Chelsea start while on international duty with Spain. The forward hit the back of the net against Italy on Saturday evening.
While the Chelsea world continues to discuss the questionable summer transfer business, Alvaro Morata is trying his best to calm some nerves. The forward scored as a substitute on Saturday evening when Spain dispatched Italy 3-0.
The Blues failed in their pursuit of a last-minute striker over the summer. Despite Fernando Llorente appearing to be on the verge of signing, Tottenham swooped in and stole the Swansea City man. With other ventures also ending in failure, the club couldn’t afford to waste much effort on a striker later on deadline day.
This only heaps pressure on Morata. Michy Batshuayi has forgotten about his great pre-season, leaving Antonio Conte with only one potent striking option. However, Morata has hit the ground running and is continuing to find the back of the net.
In a huge World Cup qualifier, Morata sealed the victory by getting onto the end of a swift counter-attack. He initially drove the ball forward, before making his way into the box to finish the move. It was clinical from Morata and from Spain.
Transfer Analysis: Chelsea’s predicted 3-4-3 with the new signings
With Chelsea’s current squad status, the Blues will be heavily leaning on Morata to consistently deliver. Diego Costa scored 20 times on the way to the Premier League title last season. Morata will need to match that production if Chelsea are to win some more silverware in this campaign.
The forward started this term somewhat slowly as well, worrying Blues fans. He was disappointing in his cameo against Arsenal in the Community Shield. He then did little against Tottenham at Wembley. However, he came alive against Everton, showing just how good he can be.
Some may have feared that the international break came at the wrong time for Morata. He doesn’t start for Spain and thus any momentum he had built would be lost. The Spaniard dispelled those fears against Italy. He buzzed around the field in the twenty odd minutes he was afforded. The goal, meanwhile, showcased his dribbling, passing and finishing.

With Champions League and cup football about to get underway, Morata’s form is encouraging. Hopefully he will be able to continue in the same vein.
