Chelsea made hard work of a manager-less Everton side playing a strong lineup. Antonio Conte sent out a much-changed team in the Carabao Cup fixture, giving an opportunity to see youngsters Ethan Ampadu and Charly Musonda.

Chelsea’s saviour was finally fit enough to play in the Carabao Cup against Everton. Danny Drinkwater made his not-very-eagerly-awaited debut, marshalling young Ethan Ampadu.

2-1 was a fair result, as Chelsea keeper Willy Caballero kept the home side in the lead. Everton stole a very late goal (which they probably deserved), after a series of sharp saves from the little-seen Argentinian.

Goalkeeper and defence

8.5. A brilliant performance from the Argentinian, with one mistake from a wayward pass almost gifting Everton an equalizer. The keeper won Chelsea the match with some fantastic saves. He remains not particularly good with his feet, and for 99% of the game he chose to boot it long rather than play a risky pass.. 1. Argentina. WILLY CABALLERO

8. Another fantastic showing from the German, looking calm on the ball and fearless in the tackle. He earned a yellow card for a hot-headed moment. If he can toe the right side of the disciplinary line, Chelsea could use that edge. He guided in a lovely header to open the scoring.. 2. Germany. ANTONIO RUDIGER

27. Denmark. ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN. 7.5. Solid, if unspectacular from Chelsea’s prized prodigy. He is so, so composed and showed a good turn of pace a number of times during the match. Will probably ache tomorrow after a couple of collisions. His job was made slightly harder by Everton not really playing a striker, so he ended up marking space rather than a man.

10. Cut him some slack, it’s ok to praise Cahill. He gets a 10/10 for being extra saucy today…. 24. England. GARY CAHILL
