The latest reports claim that David Luiz could be in line for a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. Chelsea cannot sell another player to the Manchester club.

The transfer rumour mill literally never sleeps. Following his omission from the Chelsea squad that beat Manchester United, David Luiz is now subject to transfer speculation. The latest reports suggest that Jose Mourinho may bring him to Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Star, the Brazilian defender may be a target for Mourinho. The former Chelsea boss bought Nemanja Matic over the summer.

"David Luiz could be set for a reunion with Jose Mourinho…Manchester United boss Mourinho is ready to step in to take a player he worked with at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea sure to want at least the £34m they paid Paris St-Germain for Luiz."

Simply put, the Blues cannot offload yet another quality player to their direct rivals. The Blues sold Matic to United a few months ago and Mourinho’s side was immediately strengthened. The Serbian has been a starter in a United team that sits above Chelsea in the Premier League table.

Luiz has split fans’ opinions. Many regard him as an overrated maverick who is not up to Chelsea’s defensive standards. However, a number of supporters feel that he brings a cutting edge to the Blues’ play.

Whatever your stance, Chelsea cannot build a reputation as a club who would willingly sell to a rival.

The dominant clubs in world football do not allow their domestic rivals to steal pieces of their jigsaw. The boundaries must be clear to ensure that current Chelsea players don’t have their heads turn. If the club sell another player to United, what is to stop Eden Hazard entertaining the thought of an Old Trafford switch should the Blues hit a rough patch?

A key part to player loyalty is to close down their alternative options. That makes staying at Stamford Bridge look all the more attractive.
