Gary Cahill has described Andreas Christensen as a younger David Luiz while stating that the Chelsea youngster can learn a lot from the Brazilian.

Chelsea defender David Luiz has been in the headlines recently. The Brazilian apparently had a bust-up of sorts with Antonio Conte before being dropped for the Manchester United game. He was on the bench for the West Brom clash before returning to the starting line-up to face Qarabag. Gary Cahill, though, has stated that Andreas Christensen should learn from Luiz.

Speaking about his controversial teammate, Cahill painted Luiz in a more positive light.

"David came back in and performed well. Andreas is a younger version of him if you like. I feel like David can offer Andreas a lot of help in his progression…I feel that he (Luiz) can advise him tremendously and he has done up until now. – via Sky Sports"

These comments may baffle a few Chelsea fans – especially those who claim the Brazilian is simply not a good defender. Luiz has supporters and critics in equal amounts, with his style of play truly dividing opinions.

Cahill, though, has proven himself throughout a long career. If he is claiming that Luiz is someone worth learning from, then perhaps those critics aren’t giving Luiz the credit he deserves.

A more interesting discussion, meanwhile, could be on whether Christensen is anything like Luiz. The Dane has shown composure much beyond his years. Comparable youngsters like Kurt Zouma, for example, were prone to rash decision-making. So far, Christensen has barely put a foot wrong.

Joking aside, Luiz has had two spells at Chelsea. He must be bringing something special to the table for the club to drag him back. His relaxed and jovial demeanour may mask the dressing room leader that he is behind the scenes. Judging by Cahill’s comments, this could well be the case.
