Chelsea great Marcel Desailly isn’t worried about Eden Hazard leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid. The Blues have replaced top players before, so they will do it again.

One of the biggest concerns for Chelsea fans at the moment is seeing Eden Hazard leave. The Belgian has been the sole world-class talent at Stamford Bridge over the last few years. His departure would also result in the exit of the Blues’ creativity and main attacking threat. Marcel Desailly, though, doesn’t share the supporters’ fears.

Speaking to Goal, the former Chelsea captain looked to history as proof that Chelsea can successfully move on without Hazard.

"Even when Drogba left, one of the great players, the spirit of the club continued. They continued to win. We will be sad if Hazard has to go but I am sure that Roman Abramovich is still passionate about the club. He will bring in another player that can allow the club to be at the same level again."

The best and most sustainable football clubs are built around the philosophy that no player is bigger than the entity. Hazard, though, has seemingly tested that attitude. Many fans do genuinely see him as Chelsea’s vital organ. Without the Belgian, the Blues would descend into mid-table obscurity.

Hazard has indeed been the club’s talisman throughout their recent success. Moreover, it is evident that an off-day for Hazard almost certainly means dropped points for Chelsea.

However, Desailly has a point. Although the Blues may not be able to match Manchester City’s spending power, they are still rich enough to bring in star talent. If Hazard were to join Real Madrid, Chelsea would have the tools to replace him.

This is something that the fans should realise. Drogba was deemed irreplaceable, but the Blues have won a league title without him. In the same way that Chelsea’s scouting system discovered Hazard, they can uncover another young superstar.

Credit must be given, though, to the winger. Unlike Thibaut Courtois, Hazard has not teased an exit and has largely ignored speculation. While his teammate has almost lent himself to the rumours, Hazard has remained committed to the Blues. That’s all fans can ask for, especially since an incoming offer from Real Madrid is nigh impossible to turn down.
