With rumours linking Charly Musonda with a loan move to Celtic, this is one loan army deployment to get excited about. The Belgian should thrive in Glasgow.

As the January transfer deadline approaches, the rumours are coming thick and fast. The latest reports claim that Charly Musonda could be on his way out as he looks for regular football in the second half of this campaign. Scottish champions, Celtic, are the interested party.

According to the Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the talented Belgian to Glasgow on loan.

"Celtic were closing in on an 18-month loan deal for Chelsea playmaker Charly Musonda on Friday. The Parkhead club hope to have the 21-year-old attacking midfielder in Glasgow early next week."

Musonda has been left frustrated with developments so far this season. Despite subpar performances from his teammates, Antonio Conte has failed to give him appropriate opportunities in the first team.

When Musonda was not sent on loan in the summer, the expectation was that he would have a significant role in the senior squad. That has not materialised and he has made only three Premier League appearances, all from the bench.

At his age, the Belgian needs regular football. He has the potential to become a leading continental talent, but sitting on the bench risks his future.

At Celtic, Musonda will likely thrive. Brendan Rodgers has a fantastic reputation when it comes to up and coming stars. Manchester City have trusted him with Patrick Roberts, while Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele have also come on leaps and bounds.

The Scottish top flight may not be of a high standard, but there is no doubting how impressive Celtic have been. The football they play and the evident intra-squad competitiveness will provide Musonda with an ideal environment to develop.

Chelsea send a number of players out on loan. Most of them are relatively aimless and detrimental to the loanee’s potential. However, this is a rare occasion where the Blues (and Musonda himself) should be doing their utmost to seal this move.

The fact that Musonda seemingly has no proper role at Stamford Bridge is disappointing. This, though, is the next best thing.
