Michy Batshuayi has been handed a starting role in today’s FA Cup clash with Newcastle United. The forward must seize what could be his final chance.

With the confirmed starting line-ups now out for Chelsea’s clash with Newcastle United, all eyes will be on Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian has been linked with a January exit while the Blues have been linked with a January replacement. This could be Batshuayi’s final chance to prove that he is worthy of a Chelsea shirt.

This is how Antonio Conte has set up his team for the FA Cup clash.

The Italian has picked a strong line-up and the only point of note is Batshuayi’s involvement. Despite a relatively strong showing against Brighton last weekend, Conte left him on the bench against Arsenal while clearly hinting that he does not deem him good enough.

Following that disappointing defeat, Batshuayi is back in. There is more intrigue surrounding this decision as any deal to sign Edin Dzeko now looks dead in the water. At this stage, Chelsea look set to have only one recognised striker in their squad should Batshuayi leave.

Hence, this could be Conte realising the significance of the situation and giving Batshuayi one more chance. An impressive showing this afternoon, against Premier League opposition, will help put minds somewhat at rest.

On the flipside, a poor display from Batshuayi may force Chelsea management to hit the panic button. If Dzeko cannot be signed in the coming days, they may have to delve into the depths of the transfer market to sign someone who vaguely resembles a striker. Given Conte’s incredible lack of faith in Batshuayi, almost anyone would go ahead of him in the pecking order.

Simply put, Chelsea appear to be in a bit of a crisis situation at the moment. Alvaro Morata is injured, out-of-form and dealing with personal struggles. Eden Hazard has not been a great fit for the false nine role. Chelsea need a second goalscorer whom Conte trusts.

This is very much last chance saloon for Batshuayi’s Chelsea career. The strong team indicates how seriously Conte is taking this game. The pressure will be on the Belgian to prove he belongs.
