Attack and substitutes

Brazil. WILLIAN . 6.5. Willian and Eden Hazard are quite arhythmic, right now, which creates any number of complications on offence when Hazard decides to show up for the game. Neither winger has a good read on where the other is, where he is going, what he wants and what he is going to do. This leads to poor decision-making: passing when they should shoot, shooting when they should pass, sending the ball out to Victor Moses. Willian should be like the rest of us and not count on Eden Hazard any more, and just play as he has for most of 2018.
. 22

Spain. ALVARO MORATA. 6.5. Alvaro Morata had another strong game, although his two disallowed goals overshadow most everything else. Morata was patient and controlled in his distribution. Against Tottenham he would head-on long balls from Willy Caballero up to Eden Hazard. Against West Ham he aimed the ball more precisely to Hazard, Willian, Kante or Fabregas. He stayed on his feet when he had the ball with his back to goal, as well as while trying to turn past a defender. But he needs to work on his awareness and timing, because Chelsea could twice have been up 2-0 if not for the linesman’s flag.. 9

5.5. Hazard needed all of 50 seconds to flick his first pass. This is becoming a matter for the team psychologist more than Antonio Conte. Hazard at least showed up against the Hammers but was not in sync with his fellow attackers, particularly Willian. With six Premier League games remaining, the man Chelsea should be able to rely on 100% is a major source of uncertainty.
. 10. Belgium. EDEN HAZARD

4. Pedro had a few heavy first touches to give the ball away, leading up to him swinging for a moment of glory and landing somewhere near Victor Moses for Most Wasted Scoring Opportunity of the Day. His teammates were visibly angry at both his “thought” process and execution on that shot, and rightly so.
. 11. Spain. PEDRO

5. Olivier Giroud was one of the biggest victims of Joe Hart deciding he wanted to be England’s starting goalkeeper. The Frenchman rose highest and sent a perfect header towards the far corner, but Hart somehow put a fingernail to it to deflect the ball off the post. This would have been a great day for Giroud and Morata to play together, at least for a bit.. 18. France. OLIVIER GIROUD
