Jan Oblak

At the moment, Oblak is the best goalkeeper in Europe. That is pretty much why Chelsea should be considering him in a nutshell. He would be wildly expensive and is the current owner of an 88 million euro release clause from Atletico Madrid.

If Chelsea were to sign Oblak it would be a record breaking fee but it would be a worthwhile thing to do. He is a phenomenal goalkeeper and would finally give the Blues the sort of solid platform to build on that they have been lacking for years with Courtois.

The most likely way Chelsea are able to pull this deal off is with a swap of some sort. The good news is that the Blues have a lot of players that they should be willing to move on this summer and Atletico are consistently in dire enough financial straits that it forces them to be negotiable.

Alisson Becker

A bit of a flavor of the week goalkeeper here with only one year of truly great play under his belt but that said it was a remarkable year.

Becker proved himself to be a top quality goalkeeper during this past season with Roma who couples good reactions and shot stopping with good passing ability. He needs to work a little bit on organizing his defence and communicating. Often slips into his own head and relies too much on himself alone to protect the goal. That is an issue that Courtois has never grown out of despite his lengthy stay with the squad. It is something his replacement would have to improve upon.

Admittedly, Alisson does wonderfully in that situation but with a better managed defence, it is possible that would be less of an issue. He will need to understand the importance of using his defenders as strategic defensive pins to tactically reduce angles better if he is going to progress to the very top level that his talent suggests he can.

Unfortunately, for his fewer years of top level service, Chelsea would still be forced to pay Roma record money for the phenomenal Brazilian goalkeeper. Thus the confluence of circumstances surrounding him hurts his value to the Blues.

If Roma were willing to negotiate fairly, there is nothing on the technical aspect to hold against him. That said, for the amount of money Roma would want for him, Chelsea could buy Oblak who is slightly better.
