Only four teams remain in the World Cup. Three of those four include Chelsea players. Their nations are all guaranteed at least two matches to make their mark on the world. Regardless of how results fall, the Chelsea contingent has shown itself well in the World Cup. Here are a few things to look for as the greatest World Cup in the modern era comes to an end:

1. Eden Hazard: Heir to the mantle?

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the pinnacle of players for nearly a decade now. But they are not getting younger and time is slowly catching up to them. If there is a time for someone to step in and take their crown, it is now. And for Eden Hazard, the chance is right in front of him.

Winning the World Cup is special. It is the most desired trophy for every player in the world for good reason. It can turn stars into legends, legends into more. Messi and Ronaldo, unless they return in 2022, will always have that empty space in their trophy cabinet used against them.

But if Belgium are able to push into the final, and then to a victory, the whole world dynamic shifts towards Hazard’s feet. Suddenly, he would have something that Messi and Ronaldo most likely never will. That alone will shoot his stock up. But his play on the pitch as of late has been otherworldly. Hazard is within touch of greatness. And if Belgium can win the whole thing, then Hazard will have a strong shout for best player in the world.
