Eden Hazard gave a world-class series of performances during the World Cup. Now more than ever, the rumors of Real Madrid wanting him are sparking up. Chelsea must resist any offer if they really want success in the short and long term.
Whether you knew who he was before or not, Eden Hazard impressed everyone during the World Cup. In every game for Belgium, he was the star of the show. For those who do not watch Chelsea matches on the regular, this came as a surprise. But those who do watch the Blues are well aware of his talent and capabilities, and expect nothing but the best from him.
However, such magnificent performances have once again re-ignited Real Madrid’s interest on the Chelsea star. With Cristiano Ronaldo leaving to Juventus, Hazard looks the perfect fit to replace him. Nevertheless, Chelsea must resist any offer in order to avoid the mistake on selling their best player.
Although Eden Hazard has suffered a lot of criticism as a Blue, particularly last season, he is without a doubt one of the best in the world. He has all the qualities to help Chelsea win every trophy available.
During the World Cup, Hazard was the game changer when Belgium had no way to play forward. He skipped past midfielderss and defenders alike. He opened spaces for others perfectly by dragging at least two players with him at all times. And he filtered passes that seemed impossible to pull off. Hazard hardly ever lost the ball (only N’Golo Kante could take it from him) and made everyone else’s job easier.
One thing worth noting is Eden Hazard had support in every game. Whether it was attacking on the wing, playing a more central role and even in the few minutes he played as a false nine, Hazard had players to relay on. The Red Devils did more than just watch him play.
And that is what Chelsea must aim for next season. By no means is this a suggestion to build a team around him. They simply must purchase players who can do their job, so Hazard can do his.
A good example is the link up with the strike. For many reasons last season the partnership between Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata fell off. This led to Chelsea hardly scoring goals and forcing Hazard to play not just as a second striker but as a winger as well. This changed when Olivier Giroud arrived, and the link-up play between the two became fluent.
With Maruzio Sarri as the new manager and some new players coming in, Chelsea should aim for the very top of football. To do that, the team needs a star. Not someone who is worth over £100 million, but someone who brings immense quality to the team.
The Blues have won a considerable amount of silverware in recent years, but with all the uncertainty around the club at the moment, the team also needs consistency. Keeping Eden Hazard at Chelsea will satisfy both needs. Along with some quality signings, the team should have enough fire power to challenge in all competitions next season.
Nevertheless, the point of uncertainty for everyone is “what can happen in two years?” The answer lies in the squad and the manager. As long as Chelsea sell their best players and not trust their managers, the answer to the question will always be the same “Who knows.”
Hazard can change a game in the blink of an eye, and when things get difficult, the team looks for him to find an answer. And that is because he can. Every club needs those players. At the moment, Chelsea need Eden Hazard. Selling him to Real Madrid will not only cut Chelsea’s chances to win the Champions League in the near future. It would also show future stars this is a not a big club, but rather a club that nurtures players and lets them go for the cash.

With the new Premier League season around the corner and with Marizio Sarri as the new manager, Chelsea need to act fast. Contracts need to be offered and players need to be tied down. Otherwise, next season will be one to rebuild without winning, rather than reinforce a solid team that can challenge for the top.
