Chelsea predictions vs Wednesday: Gonzalo Higuain fires a debut win
Chelsea welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Stamford Bridge for a game that will give Gonzalo Higuain as easy an opportunity to endear himself to the fans as one could imagine.
Chelsea bought Gonzalo Higuain because he could supposedly walk right into the starting XI with minimal fuss and drama, given his familiarity with Maurizio Sarri’s system. And since he’s a goal-scoring machine, second-tier opposition should be the perfect chance to live up to his expectations.
Scott Brant: Chelsea 2 – 0 Sheffield Wednesday. Not sure yet if he starts, but if he does, Gonzalo Higuain scores on his debut. Chelsea handle the opposition with ease, and keep the momentum going. A goal from Willian as well.
Kevin Peacock: 4 – 0. This game will probably be all about Gonzalo Higuain and it’s probably not a bad one to make your debut. Chelsea have reached one final already and will be hoping to make their way through to the next round of the FA Cup. Maurizio Sarri will no doubt make changes, but whoever comes in ought to be good enough to defeat Sheffield Wednesday. Famous last words.
Higuain will score, of course he will in a 4-0 win. Willian, Marcos Alonso and Ross Barkley grab the other goals.
Rupert Meadows: 3 – 1. Higuain should feature from the start, and if not will come off the bench and look sharp. Emerson stakes another claim to be first choice left back, Andreas Christensen hopefully starts (having been forgiven for the whole Arsenal loo break business) and makes a strong showing, but Chelsea still fail to keep a clean sheet. Callum Hudson-Odoi steals the show.
Mason Plummer: 4 – 1. Higuain starts and scores with Hudson-Odoi, Barkley and Alonso scoring the others. It should be all about Higuain and Hudson-Odoi up top, and they’ll run the show. Higuain could hardly have a better game to make his debut and for Hudson-Odoi to show Sarri he belongs. Sheffield Wednesday score a late consolation goal.
Gabe Henderson: 4 – 1. This game will be a lot like Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Nottingham in September 2017. The Blues will dominate the match headlined by Higuain’s debut. Despite all of the criticism around Hazard and Hudson-Odoi’s rumored exits, the Blues will come out firing on all cylinders.
Chelsea win the game handily, but a Sheffield Wednesday goal at the death gives the visitors something to be proud of in the end.
