Remember back in the day when Chelsea fans could expect the team to cruise to a comfortable win at home against the worst team in league? Good times.
Chelsea welcome the bottom team in the Premier League to Stamford Bridge today, and our staff can’t do any better than cautious optimism in predicting the outcome. We know better than to expect a Plan B (Maurizio Sarri explicitly told us as much at the press conference), so we have to hope Plan A works this time around.
Scott Brant: Chelsea 2 – 0 Huddersfield. Ooof. Speechless after their last performance. I don’t know what to predict because I’m not sure what team will show up.
Huddersfield has been extremely bad as of late, losing 10 of their last 11 in the Premier League. If for some reason Chelsea can’t win this match with ease, its time to back the truck up and just turn Stamford Bridge into a parking lot. It would be absolutely damning to Maurizio Sarri and his tenure at Chelsea. If you can’t beat Huddersfield, you might as well take your ball and go home for good.
Nate Hofmann: 2 – 1. Remember the good ol’ days? The shootout win against Spurs? The comfortable drubbing of Sheffield Wednesday? They all seem like distant memories now.
With Sarri going scorched earth against the players he’ll (presumably) be coaching for at least the next few months, it’s hard to be optimistic heading into any match. Fortunately, Huddersfield are a uniquely horrendous side at the moment, and could prove to be just the tonic needed to keep the demons at bay, if only for a weekend. Given that no one in the team other than Kepa Arrizabalaga is proving themselves to be untouchable, Sarri might choose to make a point of playing some of the backups. If this current tailspin means more minutes for Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ethan Ampadu, Andreas Christensen and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, I’ll grin and bear it. Goals for Hudson-Odoi and Pedro.
Gabe Henderson: 2 – 0. Cautiously optimistic is the best way to describe my attitude towards this weekend’s match. Usually, to say you’re optimistic after a 4-0 drubbing would be odd. If it were anybody but Huddersfield, I’d be afraid. I’m not going to sugarcoat it – Huddersfield is terrible. If Chelsea can’t take all three points out of this match, we’ve got a much larger problem on our hands. Loftus-Cheek and Eden Hazard to score in a comfortable win.
Abhishek Pancholi: 2 – 0. I hope Chelsea win. I really don’t care how, not after that humiliation at Bournemouth. Someone needs to start shooting on target. I don’t care who he is.
I’m drowning in apathy thanks to this whole Sarrismo / Sarriball schtick. If they lose to the worst team in the division after shipping four goals to Eddie Howe’s team, Sarri will have nowhere to hide. If he goes, his army of cultists on Twitter should also have their Internet privileges revoked for the next three years.
Barrett Rouen: 2 – 0. I don’t know, man. Does it even matter anymore? I hate our team and I’m ashamed of them all. I hate that they wear the badge and, for the first time in my life, I question how much I can love this club. The players do nothing but spit on us and disgrace the shirt and support everyday.
I hope they win so I don’t die of embarrassment. Sell all of them and let some kids play. What utter trash this has been. Disgrace.
Kevin Peacock: 4 – 0. In the interests of not following the crowd, I’m steering clear of 2-0 for this one. Chelsea’s performance against Bournemouth was awful. Whoever is to blame, the players have one job and that is to serve their customers.
I get it – I may not agree with the way I’m managed at work, but I wouldn’t let that affect the way I view those I work directly for on behalf of my company. It should be the same for the Chelsea players in my simplistic head. They owe the supporters a performance. That’s my one hope for this game. Professional pride and serving those that support them must outweigh petty squabbles about positions and formations. As a result, Huddersfield can time-waste all they want but they’ll still lose 4-0.
Hugo Amaya: 1 – 0. Three points and a clean sheet. But it won’t feel like a win considering Chelsea’s poor performance.
Sarri had a long talk with his players after completely falling apart midweek. But, as usual, the players won’t listen and they will just play as they please. Chelsea will have most of the possession. Like always, there won’t be much of an attacking threat, just meaningless passing.
The goal will come early in the second half by a moment of magic from Eden Hazard. Although the team wins, Sarri is not likely to be happy.
