It seems more and more certain that Eden Hazard will leave Chelsea. How should the transfer fee be used in the market to strengthen the squad?

Eden Hazard has “made his decision” which likely means if Real Madrid calls, he will answer. Of course, Chelsea will need to see their demands met and the rumor is the Blues are going to ask for £100 million or more.

Since Chelsea still, somehow, despite all the possible odds, has no technical director, we asked our contributors to put on their technical director ties and have their go at the Hazard sized/shaped pile of cash. Who do our contributors want to spend it on?

1. Tan Yi Hao: Ousmane Dembele or Paulo Dybala

I would sign either Ousmane Dembele or Paulo Dybala. There are very few players in the world who are capable of replacing the influence Hazard has on the team. Dembele and Dybala are two of the few who could fill the void left by Hazard’s departure.

Dybala is currently being overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus and his form is suffering as a result. A fair offer could tempt the Argentine away from Turin and he become the main man in SW6.

On the other hand, Dembele finds himself in a team full of competition in the wings and could fancy a move abroad to become Chelsea’s focal point moving forward.

Both Dembele and Dybala are young and full of potential and could prove a smart reinvestment of any transfer amount earned from the sale of Hazard.

2. Barrett Rouen: Trust in Callum Hudson-Odoi (and Dybala)

If Chelsea was to sell Hazard for £100 million, they would be undervaluing him. It should be £125-140 million. They should be getting near Philippe Coutinho money or better. That, or Eden Hazard can wait till he is 29 to make a serious move, in which case Real Madrid would be less thrilled with him.

Hazard’s age still presents Chelsea a little bit of negotiating strength. Then, we also need to discuss whether or not Chelsea is even in the Champions League in order to do anything with that money.

If Chelsea does not make the Champions League I sign no one. In fact, I sell more players. Either way, I do not sign a winger. Callum Hudson-Odoi should play that role. Then I think Chelsea should add Dybala, and see if they can extend Gonzaolo Higuain (depending on how well he takes to the system and Premier League). Chelsea should mainly be looking to offload players and Hazard is just one of them.
