Chelsea’s transfer ban can help clear deadwood and pave the youth path

Starting at the back in goal, having a capable back up is crucial to any top flight team and Caballero is just that. He is capable, but not stellar and is certainly not pushing Arrizabalaga for the starting spot.
Chelsea does not have a lot to offer in the goalkeeping department so the wisest option would be to try and extend Caballero since he is by far the best of the rest behind Arrizabalaga. If he wishes to leave, the next option could fall to Jamal Blackman and possibly Marcin Bulka who had a few solid saves in the preseason. None of the back ups compare to Caballero so a departure could prove very problematic.
David Luiz leaving would be a loss, but Andreas Christensen is a better and more sensible defender than Luiz. He just does not quite have the same range of passing the Brazilian does.
There is also Kurt Zouma currently plying his trade on loan at Everton. He has had a very good season and is right back on track to regaining his form and his spot he commanded in the Chelsea team before his ugly ACL injury in 2016.
There can also be made the case that Cesar Azpilicueta comes back into the center of defense. His shift back out to right back has been less than convincing in a number of displays this season, and for a player that was once Chelsea and the Premier League’s most consistent performer, it has been a tough season.
Regardless of whether Azpilicueta moves position, out on loan is Reece James, Wigan’s right back star. His performances have been turning heads and he was reportedly a loan target for some high flying Championship teams, as well as some Premier League teams in January. A return for James could give Azpilicueta some more time off to rediscover form or provide the option with moving the Spaniard back to centerback.
