Chelsea transfer ban plan, Part 4: Second chances for the forgotten Blues
By Karan Saini
Wingers
On the roster: Christian Pulisic, Eden Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi
Christian Pulisic will be joining Chelsea at the end of 2018/19 season. Pulisic is versatile, can play in a midfield role and also as a winger. At just 20 years old, he is a sensation in the US national team and in Bundesliga as well. The talented youngster is a leader on the pitch when playing for the US team and has a strong mentality to bring to the Chelsea squad that certainly lacks motivation.
At Dortmund, he has not got an awful lot of playing time and perhaps will not get much of it in his debut season in the Premier League but a few games from the bench would help him settle in the league. If the transfer ban if in effect this summer and Chelsea lose Kovacic, Pulisic will be an Ideal replacement for him.
Number one on Real Madrid’s wish list, Chelsea star man Eden Hazard will probably move to the Spanish capital. If by any chance he ends up staying in London, he will be leading Chelsea’s attack on the pitch with his unparalleled dribbling skill and playmaking. Hazard almost toys with defenders at his will in every game. The Belgian has been involved in 24 goals in the league this season with 13 goals and 11 assists, which is the best in the league. For a large part of the campaign, Hazard has been rescuing Chelsea, either winning the games or salvaging a point in the end, all by himself. Without a doubt he is the Blues most prized asset and is an obvious pick for the squad next season, if he stays put.
Entering the last season of his contract with Chelsea, Willian has been a wonderful player for the Blues. Taking care of the right wing with his Brazilian flair and quick feet, turning defenders up and down all these years.
This season he has been on and off but has pulled off remarkable performances that make him a pick for the squad next season. A deadly free kick routine is another strong point in his game and the Premier league experience he possess is too valuable. Chelsea should be giving him a contract extension as Willian has made it clear that he wants to stay at the club for years to come, so putting pen to paper should not be tough.
Pedro’s prime years are behind him now. The finesse and skills the former Barcelona man had are not usually seen. However, each campaign the winger puts on performances that makes everybody think; is he really past his best?
At the start of the season when Eden Hazard was fitting into the club after his World Cup duties, Pedro took the load and scored goals in the opening fixtures to help Chelsea win and his recent man of the match performance against Spurs is an indication that he can be decisive and get the job done. Plus having a World cup winner and a Champions League winner in the squad list, never hurts.
A spark on the field and always lively with the ball at his feet, academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi is a fan favorite. Not only fans, German giants Bayern Munich like Hudson-Odoi too as they made several bids in the £30 million range for the winger in January.
He possess all the attributes that one wants in a winger. Pace, skills, dribbling, crossing and playmaking. Odoi has been used as a substitute in majority of the league games and has made an instant impact every time. In his eight Europa league appearances the 18 year old has contributed in six goals. If other clubs are interested in him and are making bids, the management should realize his worth and keep him for years.
