Chelsea fans never took to Maurizio Sarri’s methods. They will need to be more open minded towards Frank Lampard when he joins.

Sarri did the right job. He left the club with dignity, self-respect and he certainly made Roman Abramovich realize that he needs to change his attitude towards coaches. It is a lesson for Chelsea fans as they never accepted the Italian just because he could not produce constant results. The understanding between the fans got disconnected as soon as his not-so-long dark patch started at Stamford Bridge. Everyone bombarded him with constant dissatisfaction and criticized his tactics. Ironically, he still delivered the best possible results while the whole squad supported him.

So why did Chelsea fans never like him? The reason is simple; he did not interact with them on pitch like Jose Mourinho did or like Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are doing at their respective clubs. Sarri has a reserved nature of not showing his emotions. But not supporting him on field is going to be a huge mistake committed by the Stamford Bridge crowd for the upcoming season. Many media sources suggested that he wanted to stay close to his family and his parents but this happened because the fans could not give him the atmosphere of trust and comfortability.

It is fair to say that the Stamford Bridge fans are as equally flawed as Abramovich. Their hunger for trophies has been converted into a boat without an oar. It is good to target trophies and Sarri was finally finding the rhyme for next season as his confidence was high and as he was learning how to get the maximum out of the players. But the journey was cut short as Juventus cashed in on the opportunity. This is the same situation when Chelsea did not understand the potential of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohammed Salah.

The failure to support Sarri should not be repeated for the upcoming coach. Frank Lampard, the legend, has the highest probability of grabbing the hot seat at Stamford Bridge. Yes, of course the Bridge will be supporting their highest goal scorer. But what about success and trophies? The facts are that Lampard is still a rookie manager going to a team whose fans and management are always swinging like a pendulum. His curious case is just like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s; he gained the trust of Old Trafford’s crowd but the management was not always confident in him. The job is so intense that a coach needs to be preparing to leave even before he joins the club.

It will be interesting to watch the polarizing behavior of fans towards their legend. If Lampard achieves the success he will remain the loved one. But in the case that he could not satisfy fans, would he still be loved? Or would he be allowed to complete his whole contract? It is doubtful because the number of matches, the standard of the competition, and the players coming in will make it very difficult for Chelsea. On the other hand, Guardiola and Klopp have already started preparing the deadly strategies that will give their opponents a very hard time.

Whoever will be coming to Chelsea now needs a ton of luck as no one can guarantee support. Lampard needs to pray that his status should not be converted from hero to villain.
