Chelsea: Predictions for Frank Lampard’s Premier League managerial bow
Frank Lampard takes the reins of his first Premier League game as Chelsea FC manager. We predict nothing but success.
Chelsea fans always knew Frank Lampard would return some day to manage the Blues, but few would have seriously predicted it would happen in 2019, right up until the day it did. He starts his Premier League managerial career against another player-turned-manager in Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and Manchester United.
Hugo Amaya: Manchester United 1 – 2 Chelsea. It will be a difficult first game for Lampard as Manchester United will score a goal early in the first half and dominate almost the rest of the game. But once Chelsea find their rhythm they will out-play and out-score the Red Devils. Quick passing and counter attacks will be the key to overcoming the first opponents of the season.
Rupert Meadows: 1 – 2. Chelsea win this one not for the strength of their defence, but for their attack and the disarray of Manchester United. The hosts never manage to find their balance during the game due to high energy pressing from Lampard’s Blues, and a midfield goal or two wins the day.
Kevin Peacock: 0 – 3. As it’s the first game of the season, this prediction is a free hit. With no evidence other than my foolish heart to rely on, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea – as they are now known – win this one easily.
Chelsea’s defence has been wayward in preseason. But with David Luiz now playing across town, SFL will at least have a more stable backline at his disposal. You’re welcome, Arsenal fans.
The attack will be fronted by Tambraham as he looks to fulfill the potential that Chelsea has nurtured for the last 15-years. Those who mocked the club for not providing a pathway to the senior squad from the academy didn’t realise it would take so long.
As Blues fans, though, we trust the process. Tambraham to score two with Boss Barkley bagging the other.
Scott Brant: 1 – 2. Chelsea come out and catch Manchester on their heels a bit. The Blues will score two early goals and hold off United in the second half, which their opponents will dominate. Ross Barkley and Christian Pulisic score, Marcus Rashford for United. The Lamps era is off and running.
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 1 – 2. Chelsea will create a lot of chances, but I fear they will concede a lot, too. Lampard has been experimenting with this squad and he seems to have decided in his starting XI. These players will want to stay in the side, so they’ll put on a performance that’ll show Lampard his decision is correct.
Tan Yi Hao: 2 – 4. Yes, it is Chelsea’s first official game under Frank Lampard, and if preseason is anything to go by the defence will be in for quite a ride. But I trust Lampard will have something up his sleeve against United and the Blues should come away with all three points from Old Trafford.
Expect Chelsea to score a ton of goals through midfield, although more suspect defending will allow United to hit on the break and find the net twice.
Gabe Henderson: 1 – 2. Neither team’s front line is necessarily intimidating. However, Chelsea have the edge in midfield and that’ll end up being the difference as the Super Frank era begins.
Nate Hofmann: 2 – 2. It’s probably safe to say these teams are the two most unknown quantities in the Premier League this season. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to even pick the correct starting XI’s.
Considering the preseason performances and the departure of David Luiz, expect Chelsea’s defense to be a bit Benny Hill-esque. Given that United’s backline are in a similar state of flux, some of the more experienced attacking players should be able to find an opportunity or two.
Frank Lampard’s first (managerial) Premier League point comes courtesy of goals by Pedro and Olivier Giroud.
Abhishek Pancholi: 1 – 3. Frank Lampard starts his Chelsea reign by going a goal down on a calamitous misunderstanding in defence. Thankfully, this Chelsea team has the grit and determination of their manager and they equalize before halftime. A second half brace from Chelsea’s new hero, Captain America, turns the game on its head. And so it begins.
