Alvaro Morata: Atletico Madrid

Technically, Morata is on loan but Atletico Madrid has already confirmed they will buy him outright afterwards. That is basically Financial Fair Play shuffling of the books. His time in Spain so far has gone better than his time in England and few Chelsea fans will be disappointed in the move.

Victor Moses: Fenerbahce

Moses enters the last 12 months of his 18 month loan in Turkey. Moses has very much been a player who has lived and died by whoever the current Chelsea manager is. Lampard could do little about him being a third of the way through a loan however and by the time Moses returns, he may find Lampard to be another manager with no room for him.

Lucas Piazon: Rio Ave

Piazon returns to the loan army as a truly seasoned veteran. He was once a player with a great deal of promise but the club simply has no idea what to do with him. Maurizio Sarri wanted him to stick around (for some reason) and Lampard looked as though he might be considering it. But Piazon’s time in the wilderness continues for who knows how long.

Charly Musonda: Vitesse

Musonda is basically getting a do over year at Vitesse after injury kept him out for nearly the entirety of his loan last season. Once viewed as one of Chelsea’s best prospects, he has failed to recapture the effect of his early days at Real Betis. He was aiming to do so last year in the Netherlands but perhaps he can do it this year instead

Ike Ugbo: Roda JC

Once upon a time, Ugbo was viewed as the better prospect compared to Tammy Abraham. That very much did not pan out for the kid. He is now on loan in the second division of the Netherlands which is as about as far from the Chelsea first team as anywhere. Whatever promise the kid once had is now mostly what-ifs.

Izzy Brown: Luton Town

Brown was one of the best young players to feature in Jose Mourinho’s “academy day” in 2015 after winning the title. Since then, bad injuries have killed the momentum he once had. He still seems a great and promising player when he does play but he cannot stay on the right end of the injury list. Luton Town is his latest adventure as he looks to stay fit for a full season.

Kenedy: Getafe

Perhaps no player was closer to the first team than Kenedy. He clearly impressed Lampard in preseason but Mason Mount’s usage on the wing more or less killed the chances available to Kenedy. He has gone off to La Liga where he will look to establish himself, hopefully on the wing, and finally find a way into the Chelsea first team.
