4. Goals changed the direction of the match

Until the first goal, this match looked like it could go the same way it went against Southampton, West Ham, and Bournemouth. Chelsea had the majority of possession. The crowd was making less noise. There was more intent from the Blues against Burnley than those three matches yet it looked like it may not be enough.

But with two goals coming in just over ten minutes, things changed. Chelsea was moving the ball quickly and there were more forward passes. When it was goalless, Burnley was taking all the time in the world to take free kicks and throw ins like any other lower club would do. But once goals came, there were no more wasting time and it helped Chelsea.

This match once again proved why an early goal is vital. It is always tougher to score after a slow and steady build up against teams who sit back. But the quick and fast movement can cause panic in the opposition defense which can be used to Chelsea’s benefits.
