Chelsea’s wingers are pretty evenly split between those of the past and those to use in the future. Who will make the cut for next season?

“Wingers” in a Frank Lampard team is a bit of a misnomer. While they do go wide often, they also tuck in so much that it does not seem right to call them true wingers. Because of that, they need to be good on the ball and great and deciding when to cut in or go back wide. Lampard and Chelsea has four wingers to pick from, two of whom see the clock ticking and two more who have all the time in the world.

Pedro, Spain

Pedro works hard and tries to make things happen. As far as the wingers go, he is arguably the most direct Chelsea has. But that is not necessarily what is required.

Because Chelsea’s wingers are so involved in the buildup, having a very direct one becomes a bit of a waste. That is probably why Pedro has fallen out of favor this season and why he has seemingly struggled when he has played.

Pedro’s contract is running low and there really is just not much reason to hold on to him much longer. He has been a good servant for the club, but overall his time at Chelsea came in fits and starts. Chelsea needs to direct their attention towards a more consistent player that suits the system better and that is simply not Pedro.

Performance so far: He has done poorly this season for the most part, with a few good games here and there.

Will he return next season: It would be absolutely shocking to see Pedro stay past the summer.
