2. Andre Schurrle (Oliver Smith)

Andre Schurrle was an absolute gem of a player and Chelsea, or what feels like more accurately Jose Mourinho, dumped him far too early.

It was an icy glare from Mourinho during a 1 – 1 draw against Manchester City that pretty much sealed Schurrle’s time at Stamford Bridge. Schurrle did fantastically well to score the opener against City, but then fell asleep in the second half and let James Milner get in behind him and cross the ball for Frank Lampard to score. The game giveth and taketh away, and Schurrle was the reason for both goals that day – at least it seemed that was the case in the Portuguese’s mind).

Schurrle was the perfect super sub the Blues needed: a world class player, he could play both flanks with ease. Schurrle was that touch of class that isn’t really available on the Chelsea bench right now and the Blues did away with him when he was only 24!

While no one will forget that Cesc Fabregas chip through against Burnley, it was the wonderful Andre Schurrle who scored and made it one of the all-time great assists.

It is tough to say what is more surprising: that Chelsea dumped a World Cup-winning winger in his prime at just 24, or that he is still only 29.
