When you joke with your friends that you could do a job on a professional football team, you can point to Djilobodji’s sole Chelsea contribution as the level of impact you’re aiming for.

If you calculate how much his transfer fee cost Chelsea per 90 minutes played, he’s likely the world-record holder at right around £280 million.

Djilobodji only lasted four and half months in London before being loaned out to Werder Bremen in January 2016 and then sold to Sunderland the following summer. He didn’t have to endure the entirety of Chelsea’s brutal 2015/16 season though, so maybe he was the real winner in all of this.
