Chelsea: Meireles, Cuadrado and Tiago among notable one-season players

6. Mohamed Salah, January 2014 – January 2015: 19 appearances, 2 goals, 4 assists
If Liverpool are awarded the Premier League title this year, it will actually be Salah’s second winner’s medal, technically. Despite only managing three appearances for 30 total minutes in the 2014/15 title campaign, Jose Mourinho decided to award him and other part-time contributors a medal purchased by the club beyond the normal amount given to the champion.
Of course, it was Mourinho’s unwillingness to play the Egyptian in the first place that led to him being shipped off to Fiorentina on loan midway through the season, never to return again.
Watching his performances for Chelsea, it would’ve been a stretch to think he would go on to reach the level he’s shown at Liverpool. Mourinho didn’t really know what to do with him, and he lacked anything that even resembled a decent end product at the time. In that sense, he was a slightly more productive version of Juan Cuadrado.
After a second full season on loan at Roma, Chelsea made the move permanent without any real fanfare.
The rest is history. Or present, actually.
One day, there will be a generation of fans that look confused when you tell them that Mo Salah was lining up on the left wing for Chelsea once upon a time.
