3. The attackers are all ready to go

The break in football also gives Chelsea’s promising wingers, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi, a chance to recover from their respective injuries. Pulisic’s hip injury has kept him out of Premier League action for the last nine games. When played, Pulisic has put in several impressive performances this season that have excited Chelsea fans about his future potential. When football resumes, he will be fit to add to his successful debut season for Chelsea.

Another young and talented winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi, has used the lockdown to recover from a hamstring injury and build some fitness. Should the season resume, he will have the chance to prove to Lampard that he is ready to replace the veteran wingers, Pedro and Willian, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

As for Chelsea’s strikers, Tammy Abraham has benefitted from the lockdown whereas Olivier Giroud is left disappointed about the timing. The only thing on Giroud’s mind this season was getting enough game time to make France’s Euro 2020 squad. His form before lockdown looked to be enough to achieve that goal. However, due to Covid-19 the Euros have been postponed to 2021, making it harder for Giroud to make the France squad next year due to his age.

Abraham, on the other hand, has been dealing with multiple niggling injuries since the beginning of the new year. A hip injury and an ankle injury have caused a decline in form and have restricted him to playing a part in just three of Chelsea’s last eight games. Abraham has used this break to get some much needed rest, and will be looking to add to his impressive goal tally this season once football resumes.
